440 000 British Tourists Visited Bulgaria In 2007 14/03/2008
Around 440 000 British tourists visited Bulgaria in 2007, the UK Ambassador to Bulgaria Steve Williams said at a meeting with Varna mayor Kiril Yordanov on February 19. He added that the British "colony" in Bulgaria is increasing all the time, although he has no statistics for their exact number. According to the diplomat, they may number about a thousand. Ambassador Williams added that many Britons own properties in Bulgaria but do not live permanently in the country. Bulgarian resort Bansko has begun work on a five million euro retail development, Mall Bansko. The new shopping mall is being built at the lower station of the gondola lift and Kempinski Hotel Grand Arena, skirebel.com reports. Mall Bansko would contain everything under one roof ranging from bank services, to specialised sports equipment and restaurants and bars, the website said. Telecom services provider Nexcom Bulgaria has announced the launch of a WiMAX broadband wireless internet service in Bansko. The resort would become the first Bulgarian town where the internet can be accessed from any point within the town. Property Demand Goes Down While Prices Increase In Bulgaria 12/03/2008
Property prices in Bulgaria increased by 10 per cent since the beginning of 2007, CreditCenter consultancy company data showed. Residential property market was calm as a result of the high prices, Focus news agency said. The supply was significant, but prices were too high and failed to meet the standard of the property. Most Bulgarians took bank credits to purchase property, CreditCenter said. Bulgarians covered nearly 80 per cent of the value of the lodgings using a loan. This percentage is expected to reach 90 per cent by the end of 2007. Those who took credits selected them according to the interest rate and the term for receiving credits. more

The number of Britons who are looking at buying property abroad is now at a record level, an expert has stated. According to broadcaster Amanda Lamb, more people than ever are interested in purchasing a residence overseas. Ms Lamb, presenter of Channel 4's A Place in the Sun, said that while many are doing it as a lifestyle choice, others are doing it out of financial necessity. "First-time buyers who are finding it impossible to get on the housing ladder in the UK," she commented. Ms Lamb added that about 250,000 people are choosing to leave Britain every year in order to live in another country full-time. The comments came alongside research by A Place in the Sun Live, which found that the prospect of good weather is not the sole consideration for foreign property buyers.... more
