Eastern Europe's Biggest Solar Park To Be Build In Bulgaria 11/04/2008
Near Pazardjik city (Southern Bulgaria) will be build the biggest solar station in Eastern Europe. It is foreseen to be located over an area of 2,000 sq m. The mayor of Pazardjik already had entered into the municipality council suggestion for the purchase of the land, estimated to almost 480,000 BGN (240,000 EUR). The investments are on the amount of over 30 million BGN (15 million EUR). The investor is still not announced, but according to information he will work in collaboration with ‘Helium Energy' International Corporation. The solar station will be with installed capacity of 50 mW. Besides the solar park is expected also to be build a factory for the production of solar batteries. more

Local Taxes In Sofia May Prove Illegal 15/03/2008
Local taxes in Sofia for this year might turn out to be unlawful because the Sofia municipal council has failed to observe the deadline, February 29, for announcing the new rates, Dnevnik daily reported on March 4. Collection of local taxes should have started on March 4, but the new rates haven't been published anywhere. The councilors said that they “have stopped the clock” and will continue work on the taxes and the Sofia budget at the council's next session on March 6. “Stopping the clock” is practice is used in Parliament, but only to extend its sessions within the range of one day. Delaying by one week was too much, lawyers quoted by Dnevnik daily said, and because the councilors have missed the deadline, tax rates should remain the same. A decision by Bulgaria's... more

Equest Divests Of Former Serdika Hotel 18/05/2008
Days after real estate investment trust Equest Balkan Properties announced that it would sell some of its assets in Bulgaria and other neighbouring countries, it announced that it had sold the former Hotel Serdika to Uniqa Real Estate, the real estate subsidiary of Austrian insurer Uniqa, Dnevnik daily reported on May 15. Equest managing partner Georgi Kroumov confirmed the news but declined to specify the value of the transaction until the deal was finalised. This is Equest's second asset divestiture after City Center Sofia, a key shopping and entertainment complex in Bulgaria’s capital. The 25th anniversary edition of the Holiday&Spa fair, organised by Prim Expo in co-operation with the State Agency for Tourism, opened on February 21 2008 in Sofia. The exhibition, running until February 23, featured more than 300 tour operators and tourist agencies, state and branch organisations, regional and local tourism councils, spa and fitness equipment companies from countries such as Bulgaria, Greece, Turkey, Spain, Italy, Austria, Macedonia, England, Cyprus, Croatia, Egypt, Thailand and others.
