Spanish MTM Grup has declared its interest in developing a construction materials plant near Plovdiv and a residential compound in Bobov dol. The Spanish company signed a contract with Bulgarian transport company Assarel Trans Ltd from Panagyurishte on January 23 for consultancy services and draft the construction plans for the plant, which would be eligible for EU funding. Local authorities and company representatives will hear proposals from a working group on February 29. MTM Grup’s projects in Bulgaria include the construction of a bus-assembly works and a car-body manufacturing plant. The interest of Bulgarian and foreign tourists towards local SPA and wellness tourism is increasing. This was reported after the latest research of local State Agency of Tourism (SAT). According to the research 18% of the Bulgarians and 134% of the foreign tourists devote time for SPA tourism during their winter vacation. One of the main priorities in the strategy for developing of the sector is exactly this kind of tourism, pointed out Stela Baltova, vice chairperson of SAT. Consumers in the UK are continuing to show interest in buying property abroad, despite the ongoing economic problems across the world. ShelterOffshore.com said the recent slowdown in the global economy has led to many people's finances being stretched. However, it said that while consumers are spending frugally and saving less money, many are still keen to make a foreign investment. According to the online portal, Britons have an "insatiable desire" to own a house in a sunny location. Foreign direct investments into real estate has been losing momentum in the first quarter of 2008, the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) said in a report covering the January-March period. Investments worth 333.4 million euro in January-March is the lowest quarterly figure reported for the past two years, the BNB report noted. Experts ascribed flagging interest to the global financial crisis and the restricted and more expensive financial resource. The first signs of the slowdown appeared late last year when a score of investors started backing out from medium and large-scale projects.
