Greek Company Buys A 12 Million Euro Plot In Sofia For The First Ikea Unit In Bulgaria 14/03/2008
The Greek group Fourlis has signed a 12.081 million euro preliminary contract for the purchase of a plot in Sofia where it plans to develop the first IKEA hypermarket in the country, investor.bg reported. Negotiations for the land started in November last year, Fourlis officials said, but they refused to give details about its size and location. The Greek holder of the rights for the development of the Swedish furniture chain plans to start construction of the hypermarket later this year. Completion is scheduled for 2009. Prices in the Bulgarian outlet will be lower than those of its Greek counterpart because Fourlis’ policy is to comply with the market situation and the purchasing power (GDP per capita) of the country they are entering, company representatives noted. New Residential Complex In Kranevo Breaks Ground 20/03/2008
The first-sod ceremony of a new housing compound in Kranevo, located within the boundaries of Balchik Municipality, took place on March 18, municipality officials told investor.bg. The gross actual area of the complex would be 30 000 sq m, as announced by Aleksei Tilianov, a representative of the project’s developer, Old Tower, the wholly-owned subsidiary of Gibraltar-registered Old Tower Ltd, according to APIS registry system. The project’s contractor is Kurortno Stroitelstvo (Resort Construction) Ltd. A total of 27 000 tourists visited Kranevo in 2006, 19 000 of them foreigners, data provided by Balchik Municipality showed. more

Rousse Holiday Property Market Losing Appeal 10/03/2008
Foreign interest in holiday properties in Rousse region has stalled because prices have soared immensely and available properties have lost their attractiveness, with the market is suffering a lack of retail space in Rousse’s downtown, investor.bg reported on March 4 2008. Plots designated for construction of holiday houses command similar values in neighbouring municipalities: in Byala they score 21 euro a sq m, in Ivanovo – 24.5 euro a sq m, in Vetovo – 20 euro, in Dve mogili – 23 euro and in the villages around Rousse they fluctuate between 20 and 25 euro a sq m. At the same time, there is a shortage of commercial developments in the city centre, where most available properties were small and located in old buildings. Carrefour To Build Mall In Stara Zagora 09/07/2008
Carrefour, the French hypermarket chain, announced plans to build a retail-entertainment complex in Stara Zagora, weekly Stroitelstvo Gradut said. The total investment will amount to 10 million euro as the property itself will be situated on a land plot of 20 900 sq m. The project features a mall, whose retail space will be 14 575 sq m, as well as hypermarket on a further 6324 sq m. Architect Ilian Iliev of Planning Ltd. has been picked todesign the mall, with Carrefour currently still looking to select a construction company to build it. With the opening of the complex, Carrefour has promised to offer 400 new job positions when the project is completed by 2010 as planned.
