Real estate developer Globe Trade Centre (GTC) will invest 40 million euro in a new shopping centre in the town of Osijek in Croatia, consultant and leasing agent for the project Colliers International Croatia said on April 7. The development, Avenue Mall Osijek, will have 26 000 sq m of retail space for rent, Colliers said in a statement. The shopping centre is scheduled to be completed by end-2009. GTC has already secured a four hectare plot for the new mall, less than two kilometres from downtown Osijek, Croatia's fourth largest city, Colliers said. The catchment area of the new development is more than half a million people within a 30 minutes drive. Hungarian property developer SCD Holding unveiled plans to expand to Bulgaria, Romania and Croatia, Hungarian newspaper Napi Gazdasag reported on May 21, as quoted by bbj.hu. In Bulgaria, in particular, it would hone its attention to office and commercial property, the newspaper quoted SCD spokesperson Peter Elkan as saying. In Romania it will focus on residential property and in Croatia on tourism. In addition, the company, which plans to list on the Budapest Stock Exchange in the third quarter of 2009, also divested Interfruct Kft Cash and Carry, a 24-unit retail chain, to financial investor Calslane Holdings. Bulgaria's Directorate for National Construction Supervision (DNCS), which started inspecting the legality of completed and ongoing construction along the Black Sea coastline on February 25, has already issued orders for the demolition of 57 units. Twenty five of them are on the north coastline and 32 are along the southern coast, the institution announced on its website. Аccording to the Spatial Planning of the Bulgarian Black Sea Coastline Act, which entered into force on January 1 2008, all entities erecting illegal constructions on the beaches were obliged to voluntarily demolish them within a month of the law coming into effect. High house prices and economic problems in the UK are leading to many first-time buyers (FTBs) looking abroad, a study has found. Fair Investment Company revealed that nearly one in ten FTBs have already bought their first property overseas, while 44 per cent of thinking of doing so. The firm highlighted a number of reasons for people choosing to look away from home, such as the impact of the credit crunch on the British housing market. However, issues including the availability of property in the UK and the effect this has had on prices were flagged up as other factors behind this trend.
