Although authorities recently suspended construction of a holiday complex in Irakli-Emine because the area was a Natura 2000 protected area, the developers, Swiss Properties, have not ceased construction works, propertywisebulgaria.com said. Trees have been cut down and the Vaya river banks has been destroyed to prepare the terrain for the construction of hotels, Nadezhda Maximova from the "Save Irakli" environmental organisation told Dnevnik Daily. The area owned by Swiss Properties formed 20 per cent of the future Natura 2000 ecological network zone of Irakli-Emine, environmentalists said. Bulgaria's share of the foreign property market is falling as a result of growing competition, industry experts have stated. According to the Association of International Property Professionals (AIPP), the proportion of investors choosing the Bulgarian market went down last year. However, the organisation said this does not mean that the country is becoming less popular with overseas property buyers. The expected growth of tourist in Bulgaria in the coming summer season is between 3 and 5 %, compared to the last year season. This was prognosticated by Rumen Draganov, director of Institute for analysis and value in tourism. Last year Bulgaria was visited by 7,8 million tourists and excursionists. The increase in coming holiday makers will be mainly due to Romanian and Greek tourists.
