Sofia city hall-owened metro operator Metropoliten called a new tender for the construction of a new section of the metro network, Dnevnik daily reported on April 7. The previous tender for the section connecting Nadezhda junction with Cherni Vruh Boulevard was called at the turn of the year and later cancelled because no bidder offered an acceptable price. Metropoliten will finance the project with European Union structural funds under operational programme Transport. The new public procurement is divided into two lots. The first, linking Nadezhda junction to Patriarch Evtimii Boulevard, has a cost cap of 400.46 million leva, value-added tax (VAT) excluded. The second, between Patriarch Evtimii Boulevard and Cherni Vruh Boulevard, should be built for no more than 155.55 million... more
Interhotel Grand Hotel Sofia, the company controlled by Henry Gwyn-Jones, is negotiating the sale of the 136-room Radisson SAS Grand Hotel, one of the six five-star hotels in Sofia, Dnevnik daily reported on March 6. Both foreign and local prospective buyers were interested in the hotel, the daily claimed. Gwyn-Jones refused to comment. Contacted by Pari Daily, Fernando Gruenberg Stern, general manager of Radisson SAS Grand Hotel, said that such talks are commonplace and could not influence the quality of services, provided by the hotel. One of the possible buyers, local businessman Georgi Gergov, confirmed for Dnevnik that he had been interested in the property at one point, but was not anymore. Bulgaria, Georgia, Greece, Moldova, Romania, Russia, Turkey and Ukraine will be linked with a highway route that will guarantee security, speed and comfort of transport. This is foreseen in the Memorandum for agreement for coordination development of the Black sea highway rink between the states members of the Organization for Black sea economical collaboration. The document is expected to be approved by the government at a today's session. The cabinet also should confirm and the signed on January 18 this year agreement with Russia for the set up of rail-ferry link between the harbors Varna and Caucasus. more
The interest of Bulgarian and foreign tourists towards local SPA and wellness tourism is increasing. This was reported after the latest research of local State Agency of Tourism (SAT). According to the research 18% of the Bulgarians and 134% of the foreign tourists devote time for SPA tourism during their winter vacation. One of the main priorities in the strategy for developing of the sector is exactly this kind of tourism, pointed out Stela Baltova, vice chairperson of SAT. The interest towards SPA in world measures is enormous. According to specialists this must be the tourism product around which to be united all European countries and to offer it on the world market. more
