Bulgaria registered the second highest increase in property prices worldwide, according to the analysis of London agency Knight Frank. The analysis compares property prices in countries in Europe, Asia and in the US, 24 Chassa newspaper reported. Bulgaria maintains the second highest price increase after Latvia, where the growth for the second quarter of 2006 as compared to prices for the previous year reached 45.3 per cent. From all countries analysed, three experienced negative growth rate, 24 Chassa reported. Price growth in Latvia resulted from the low inflation and the facilitated access to loans. The eighth edition of Bulgaria Building Week construction fair will take place in Inter Expo Centre in Sofia from March 11 until March 15. This year will feature the highest number of participants ever, 700, or a quarter more than in 2007, Stroitelstvo Gradut weekly reported on March 10. The Bavarian Ministry of Economy, Infrastructure, Transport and Technologies and Bayern International traditionally organise the joint presentation of construction companies from the German province Bavaria. Producers, distributors and retailers of construction materials and technologies from Bulgaria, Turkey, Germany, Italy, UK, Austria, Holland, Finland, Spain and the USA, among others, will take part in the fair. FairPlay Properties real estate investment trust (REIT), part of FairPlay International Jsc, has sealed the deal to buy a 8700 sq m land plot in Sofia's Studentski Grad neighbourhood for 5.7 million euro, value-added tax excluded, Dnevnik daily reported on April 14. The land will be used to build an apartment building and an office building, the daily said. The REIt plans to invest 22 million leva in the apartment building, starting construction within months and completing it by end-2009. The office building will cost 35 million leva to build. The acquisition was funded with bank loans. News of the deal pushed the REIT's share price 1.58 per cent up to 1.93 leva in trading on April 14, Dnevnik said. About 30 developers and property hunters line up on an empty white sand beach, straining to hear the English translation of a speech from Krasimir Todorov. Todorov, the mayor of Avren, is trying to sell 300,000 sq metres of municipally owned land south of the Black Sea port of Varna.
