Hungarian property developer SCD Holding unveiled plans to expand to Bulgaria, Romania and Croatia, Hungarian newspaper Napi Gazdasag reported on May 21, as quoted by bbj.hu. In Bulgaria, in particular, it would hone its attention to office and commercial property, the newspaper quoted SCD spokesperson Peter Elkan as saying. In Romania it will focus on residential property and in Croatia on tourism. In addition, the company, which plans to list on the Budapest Stock Exchange in the third quarter of 2009, also divested Interfruct Kft Cash and Carry, a 24-unit retail chain, to financial investor Calslane Holdings. The value of the transaction was not disclosed. The company, which rejigged its strategy last year, plans to form project companies for its projects in individual countries... more

A new territorial scope of regions in Bulgaria in accordance with the requirements of Regulation (EC) on the establishment of a common classification of territorial units for statistics is prescribed by a Regional Development Bill, which Parliament approved on first reading on March 6, Bulgaria News Agency (BTA) reported. The bill preserves the defined types of regions for targeted impact, and their specific territorial scope is defined by a regional strategy for development, the Council of Ministers said in its reasoning for the bill. The adoption of a new regional development law is based on the need for substantial change of the national legal framework in the field of regional policy and regional development in accordance with the conditions of Bulgaria's full EU membership.... more

People who own property in a market which is slowing down have been urged to sit tight and wait for an improvement. BuyAssociation stated that some of established investment markets such as Spain have recently witnessed a decline in house prices. However, the online portal has recommended that people do not put their residence up for sale, as the location could be seeing a glut of resale properties entering the market. If people do attempt to sell up in this climate, they would not be able to command a high price and could potentially lose money. Therefore, it has suggested that people wait for the "cyclical" market to pick up again.
