One In Four Adults In Bulgaria Owns Farmland, One Third Leaves It Uncultivated 11/03/2008
One quarter of adults in Bulgaria own farmland, but about one third do not use it, a BBSS Gallup International found in a nationally representative opinion poll conducted among 1 010 adults in 115 Bulgarian settlements in July 2007. The results of the poll were disclosed in "24 Chassa" daily on August 8. The average amount of land owned is 1 hectare. Half of the land owners reside in rural areas, and the other half live mainly in small towns or regional capitals. One in ten landowners resides in Sofia. Rural residents make up about 30 per cent of Bulgaria's total population, according to Bulgarian news agency BTA. Three quarters of those who own farmland are over 50 years of age. Property prices in Bulgaria were so low it was impossible to make losing investment in the country's real estate sector, International Herald Tribune reported. At the same time property prices are constantly on the rise. In one year residential property prices went up 36.6 per cent, data of the National Statistical Institute shows. Prices are still much lower than the value of similar property in other Central and East European countries, like Slovakia, Romania and the Czech Republic. West European property seekers are mainly lured by the opportunity to purchase a cheap vacation house in Bulgaria. New Multifunctional Building For Evropa Boulevard In Sofia 08/10/2008
Mapa International is investing in a facility that will feature office and warehouse spaces on Evropa Boulevard across from supermarket Metro-2. The mixed-purpose building will occupy about 3000 sq m out of a 0.8 ha land plot. In addition, the investor plans to construct a multi-functional centre resembling a traditional mall with a total built-up area of 10 000 sq m, Stroitelstvo gradut reported.The designer is the Plovdiv-based studio ARZH-ART with project manager architect Emil Zhechev.The office building will feature five levels, one of them subterranean.
