Varna Municipality Allocates 17.5ha For Container Terminal 09/04/2008
Varna municipality has earmarked 17.5ha for a new container terminal, weekly Stroitelstvo Gradut reported on April 7. The land lot, located on the northern coast of Varna lake, will be handed over once the Government and the municipality sign a memorandum for the re-development of the entire area. It includes the re-location of Varna port to the western side of the lake, as well as the construction of a recreational zone on the current grounds of the port. The Cabinet is set to review the memorandum in mid-April, Bulgarian Transport Minister Petar Moutafchiev said, quoted by the weekly. Construction In Bulgarias Protected Coastal Regions Continues 14/03/2008
Terrains in the wild coastal region Irakli were offered for sale on the websites of various property companies, inspection of mediapool.bg reported. Houses in vacation complexes were offered for sale on the web. Ads present buildings in close proximity to the beach in some of the last wild Black Sea coastal areas. Over the weekend thousands of Bulgarians signed a petition in favour of protective measures and limited construction in the Irakli region. More than 6000 people have already signed the petition, organisers of the protest said. It aims at protecting Irakli and eight other coastal areas from over-construction. On June 30 the Nessebar municipality is expected to take a decision concerning construction works in the wild coastal areas. more

Overconstruction Brings Down Prices In Bulgarias Resorts Significantly 12/03/2008
Over-construction of coastal resorts is a fact and represents major setback to the development of Bulgaria’s resorts, head of the National Tourism Board Georgi Gergov said. Foreigners pay 120 euro for a week-long vacation, Gergov said. The sum includes airport ticket, as well. Only an inexpensive offer can compensate for the over-constructed resorts and the poor conditions there, Gergov said. The chaotic construction in coastal and mountain resorts should end. Entrepreneurs, as well as the state lose from the lack of construction regulations, he said. Mistakes made in the past can be corrected in case the proper infrastructure is provided and investors protect green areas in the resorts, Gergov said. Further state control is needed, as well. more
