Bulgaria ranked third in the world in terms of property price growth in 2007. Average sale real estate prices rose by 36 per cent last year, whereas rentals posted a more modest mark-up of 6 to 7 per cent nationwide, reaching 10 per cent in Sofia. These figures were revealed by Deyan Kavrukov, a head of Bluehouse equity fund and a former partner in Equest, in an interview with BNT. Big infrastructure projects, including a new underground railway line, are to turn Sofia’s northern part into an attractive area for business and living. Large parks, sports and entertainment, residential developments, as well as production and logistic facilities would be constructed in the region in the next seven or eight years, Pari daily reported. “Investors are already realising the potential of the northern quarter and starting to buy land there,” Pari said. Public Works Minister Lobbies For Local Companies To Build Trakia Highway 14/03/2008
Bulgarian Trace Group, Patishta Holding and Glavbolgarstroy could be hired as subcontractors by the Bulgarian-Portuguese consortium picked to complete and operate the Trakia motorway under a concession arrangement, Regional Development and Public Works Minister Asen Gagauzov said on February 27, as quoted by Dnevnik daily. On December 16, 2004, the Government awarded the concession to Magistrali Trakia Jsc, a Portuguese-Bulgarian consortium, which has to build a 190km stretch and repair 162 km of the Trakia Highway, receiving in return the right to collect the road toll for 35 years.
