Balchik Wants To Buy Back Land Containing Ancient Temple Of Kibela 23/04/2008
The Balchik municipality has expressed interest in buying back the plot of land on which the remains of the ancient temple of Kibela (the ancient goddess Cybele) had been discovered. A buy-back however, would take a significant chunk out of the municipal budget, Bulgarian news agency (BTA) quoted Balchik mayor Nikolai Angelov as saying. Angelov said the municipality had offered the current owners the chance to exchange the site for a larger plot but the offer had been rejected. The two sides could not reach an agreement about the value of a possible deal, Investor.bg said. The temple had been discovered in the spring of 2007 during excavations for the construction of an on-site hotel. The construction had been stopped by the municipality, Angelov said. Currently, around 90 per cent of winter holiday property buyers in Bulgaria are foreign. Just two years ago British and Irish investors formed the core of mountain holiday properties buyers, responsible for an 80 per cent market share. Bulgarians contributed only a few per cent. Last year this pattern was reversed: 70-80 per cent were Russian, Czech, Hungarian, Polish, Romanian and Bulgarian investors and only 20 per cent were British and Irish, according to the Bulgarian-language monthly magazine Imotut koito tursite (The property you seek). The property market in Sofia enters a ‘more mature’ phase, Colliers International short-term prediction said. Residential property supply is increasing and residential complexes of closed type are very popular, Colliers said. Construction of new luxurious property is most intense in Sofia’s southern districts, Lozenets, Vitosha, Manastirski Livadi and Bukston. The average sale price in 2006 registered a light increase as compared to price increase over the past several years, Colliers said.
