Sofia Court Legalises Disputed Hotel 26/05/2008
The administrative court in Sofia overruled on May 22 a decision by the National Construction Control Directorate (NCCD) that had ordered Hotel Dunes in Slanchev Bryag to be torn down. Hotel Dunes is owned by the VAI holding of former businessman and the owner of the Lokomotiv-Plovdiv football club, Georgi Iliev, who was murdered in 2005. The hotel is built over the former site of restaurant Dune, Dnevnik daily said. NCCD had ordered in the summer of 2007 that the hotel be torn down because its construction was not laid out in the original plans. Bulgaria In Search For Bidders To Construct Sofia's Underground 03/04/2008
Bulgaria is about to launch a new tender for an international bidder to construct a stretch of Sofia's underground railway, Bulgarian Transport Ministry announced on April 2, quoted by Reuters. Sofia's municipality company Metropolitеn will accept offers for the build and overhaul of a 6,5 km, 7-station stretch of the underground until May 27. The stretch is foreseen to be completed in 4 years. From the media reminded that this is the 2nd tender for the section. The first one was cancelled in March after the offers submitted were well above the planned budget for the work. The transport ministry said the Sofia's underground stretch will be covered by 145 million EUR of EU funds. The underground in Bulgaria's capital is expected to start to operate by 2020. more
