A British company intends to invest in a small factory for English-style gardening furniture in the village of Polski Senovets in northeast Bulgaria. PV Services Ltd owned by Paul Vernam from the UK plans to purchase the building of the former workshop in the village located in the Polski Trambesh Municipality. The starting price of the property is BGN 30 000, and the procedure for its sale has already been initiated by the municipal administration. The UK firm also wants to lease the canteen of the village school, which has been closed down, and to turn it into a mini-factory for gardening furniture. The total value of the land owned by the company is evaluated at around 68 million leva. Real estate investment trust (REIT) Advance Terrafund announced that its agricultural land stock stood at 21.7 ha at the end of February 2008, Dnevnik daily reported on March 12. Lands in north-eastern and north-central Bulgaria formed the greatest share of the REIT's portfolio. Advance Terrafund invests mainly in agricultural land, which forms 83 per cent of its portfolio. Almost half of the inventory were leased for the 2007-2008 farming year. Lease and rental income for 2006-2007 topped 627 000 leva. "Most of them are foreigners, in general early retirees and families who want to own property and enjoy the low cost of living, along with affluent Bulgarians from Sofia and other cities who are looking for weekend or holiday homes in the best rural areas." Cherveno Zname (Red Flag) sports complex in Sofia will be renovated into a modern sports centre that would be able to host top international sports events, Construction-Entrepreneurial Holding EOOD (CEH), the contractor picked for the revamp, said, as quoted by Dnevnik daily on June 19. CEH was contracted by executive agency Social Activities with the Defence Ministry after winning a public bid to this effect. The ministry owns the land on which the Cherveno Zname complex is located. By 2010, the complex will be modernised and apart from hosting big international sports events it would also allow sports amateurs and professionals to train. Construction in the coastal resort of Sunny Beach (Slunchev Bryag) and the nearby tourist settlements “cannot and will not” stop before mid-May, Nessebur mayor Nikolai Dimitrov said, as quoted by Dnevnik daily. According to Bulgarian legislation, construction on the Black Sea coast must stop on May 1. But Dimitrov argued that there were no reasons to stop construction at the start of May. “The hotel owners insist on the construction stopping, but they forget that they were also once building,” he said.
