Many overseas property buyers are seeking out bargain homes amid the current economic downturn, according to analysts.NuBricks.com stated that properties in some markets are being sold at a knock-down rate because the credit crunch has hit the level of demand. As a result, forward-thinking investors are snapping up these houses while they are undervalued. This means they can pick up a desirable property in a prime location for a relatively low price, and look forward to considerable capital growth when the market picks up again.Adam Samuel, a director of Nubricks.com, commented: "The professional investor will look at a climate like this with the potential to make even better returns."He added that since there is a lot of property for sale at the moment, people can take advantage of the... more
Bulgaria's GDP growth reached record levels of 7% during the first 6 months of 2008, according to a report by Macro Watch, a group formed by the Open Society Institute (OSI) in Sofia. The report proved that Bulgaria's economy is more than holding its own among the more mature EU economies and OSI predicts that inflation during 2008 will be down to around 9%, a significant drop from present levels of around 14%. Part of the reason for the predicted fall in inflation is that the burden of rising prices has shifted away from necessities such as food to less basic-need items. The government's stringent economic policies are now bearing fruit; Bulgarian National Bank reserves reached record levels of €13 billion and growth of Bulgaria's exports has exceeded imports for the second quarter in... more
Property in Bulgaria will continue to offer good returns for investors making purchases in the country in 2009 it has been predicted. According to Quest Bulgaria Property Magazine, returns will fall slightly from the average annual price increase of 30 per cent the country has been experiencing for the past five years, but will still remain a "good long-term bet" for those looking to invest. The publication also noted that property in the country "remains incredibly cheap" and that the credit crunch has had "little effect" on what is a "stable" property market. These two factors may further attract investors who are looking to make purchases overseas but currently have limited mortgage options available to them.Areas such as Yablanitsa, Stara Zagora and Rousse were recently identified... more
Foreign property buyers may be able to get strong capital gains in Bulgaria, as house prices across the country are still rising steadily.According to official government figures, property values in the eastern European nation rose by 5.9 per cent between April and June 2008.Data cited by the Novinite news agency also showed that some parts of Bulgaria saw an above-average rate of house price inflation. For example, values in Sofia rose by 6.9 per cent, while prices in Kyustendil went up by more than twice this amount. The figures are likely to welcomed by foreign property buyers who have invested in the Bulgarian market.Second home owners will find that their purchase is now worth more than the original asking price, which means they could sell it on at a profit if they choose.Bulgaria,... more
Representatives of Sofia's Sredets district and the Bulgarian Academy of Science's National Archaeological Institute have declared their disapproval of the possible construction of an 80-m high building on the site of the existing Hotel Rila.Investor.bg quoted Sredets district mayor Margarita Gouteva as saying such for her contingent at a public discussion on plans to construct a new building at the location.A gap in the law could allow a structure to be built even higher than the one currently there, thus towering over all other buildings in the city centre, discussion attendees said, as quoted by mediapool.bg.Gouteva clarified that there was no project for the demolition of the hotel or the construction of anything else. There was a project for changes in the city-planning and... more
