Varna Municipality Allocates 17.5ha For Container Terminal 09/04/2008
Varna municipality has earmarked 17.5ha for a new container terminal, weekly Stroitelstvo Gradut reported on April 7. The land lot, located on the northern coast of Varna lake, will be handed over once the Government and the municipality sign a memorandum for the re-development of the entire area. It includes the re-location of Varna port to the western side of the lake, as well as the construction of a recreational zone on the current grounds of the port. The Cabinet is set to review the memorandum in mid-April, Bulgarian Transport Minister Petar Moutafchiev said, quoted by the weekly. He added that he discussed the project last week with Varna mayor Kiril Yordanov and the chair of Varna municipal council Borislav Goutsanov. Eastern Europe's Biggest Solar Park To Be Build In Bulgaria 11/04/2008
Near Pazardjik city (Southern Bulgaria) will be build the biggest solar station in Eastern Europe. It is foreseen to be located over an area of 2,000 sq m. The mayor of Pazardjik already had entered into the municipality council suggestion for the purchase of the land, estimated to almost 480,000 BGN (240,000 EUR). The investments are on the amount of over 30 million BGN (15 million EUR). The investor is still not announced, but according to information he will work in collaboration with ‘Helium Energy' International Corporation. The solar station will be with installed capacity of 50 mW. Besides the solar park is expected also to be build a factory for the production of solar batteries. more

Environmentalists Protest Against 5 Billion Euro Projects 14/03/2008
An NGO contested in Brussels 50 large EU-funding investment projects for Eastern Europe that have been approved and started. Six of these projects are in Bulgaria and are at the total cost of 5.12 billion euro, said sources from Friends of the Earth - Europe. The NGO believes these projects are harmful to the environment and billions of euro will be wasted. Some of the contested projects in Bulgaria are the construction of Lyulin motorway that will cut across Kresna Gorge, waste management facilities in Sofia, expansion of Sofia airport and construction of Belene NPP. In lines with Sofia's garbage problems, the environmentalists said it is important that a new dumpsite should be found and that garbage should be collected selectively and investments be made for their recycling.... more

New Business Centre To Be Developed In Krivina Village Near Sofia 26/03/2008
UK-based Bulgarian Property Development Plc (BPD), which specialises in developing, trading and investing in Bulgarian properties, declared its intention to build a business centre with an adjoining office and warehouse in Krivina village, near Sofia, expert.bg reported. The compound will occupy a two-hectare plot. Fund’s representatives have already submitted the detailed project of the centre with the municipality and it is to be voted by the end of March. Apart from the business park’s construction, BPD plans to develop the adjoining infrastructure, as well. The fund also owns 9.2 ha along the Sofia ring road near the village of Krivina and 8.8 ha in Hladilnika neighbourhood, where it mulls developing retail and office space. The majority of Britons purchasing properties abroad are looking for somewhere they can use as a holiday home, yet increasing numbers of serious investors are turning to emerging markets to get the best return on their money. Most British investors choose somewhere relatively close to home which can be reached via cheap flights, according to BuyAssociation.
