Bulgaria moves three places ahead - from 79th to 76th position in the classification for global competitiveness for 2008-2009 at the World economic forum.This was announced by the Center for economic development (CED) - official partner of the Forum, cited by Bulgarian Telegraph Agency.The report for global competitiveness is a study of the state of economies in over 130 countries in the world. CED points out that Bulgaria has the worst position in comparison to all the rest European Union countries. more

Akb Fores Earmarks 150m Euro For Investment In 2008 07/05/2008
Bulgaria’s financial holding AKB Fores will almost quadruple its investments this year to 150 million euro, the owner of the holding Nikolai Banev said at a news conference, as quoted by Dnevnik daily. Investment outlays last year stood at 40 million euro. The figure for 2008 does not include the investment into a hazardous chemical cargo terminal at the port of Varna, Banev said. The 100 million euro project, which AKB Fores hopes to implement with strategic partners, will be built in a year and a half. Hopes are that it will emerge into the main facility regionwide and deny the competition of its counterpart in Constanta, Romania, he added. The acceptance of documents under the functional program "Fishery" within which Bulgaria will receive nearly 107 million euro from the European Union starts today.The program for support of the fishery field till 2013 will be officially opened by the minister of agriculture and food Valeri Tsvetanov.The aim of the program is to secure sustainable development of the fishery branch, to develop the fish products market and to improve the quality of life in the fishing regions.The funding will be for provision of modern equipment of the fishing vessels, easing the young fishermen entrance in the sector, improvement of the vessels' safety, quality of the catch and sanitary conditions.The program offers measures, which will support the production of more precious types of fish in Bulgaria,... more

Rental investors are getting low vacancy rates in year-round holiday destinations, it has been revealed. According to Holiday-Rentals, most of its clients with a foreign property are able to rent them out for the whole year. This is because many of these residences are located in places which do not have a seasonal tourist trade, such as Italy, France and Spain. Therefore, investing in a country which attracts high volumes of tourists for 12 months of the year could be a lucrative endeavour.
