Bulgaria's share of the foreign property market is falling as a result of growing competition, industry experts have stated. According to the Association of International Property Professionals (AIPP), the proportion of investors choosing the Bulgarian market went down last year. However, the organisation said this does not mean that the country is becoming less popular with overseas property buyers. Paul Owen, chief executive of the AIPP, stated that this is an indicator of the growing level of competition which Bulgaria now faces. According to yearly inquiry of National Statistic Institute (NSI), researching the investment plans of industry in 2008, a common nominal increasing of 1.4 % is expected during this year, compared to 2007. The inquiry is representative for the country as the observed enterprises form 90% of the industry yearly turnover. The share of private sector reaches 78.7% of the common capacity for 2008. After the over-development in Sofia’s northern areas in the past years, the municipality is expected to fund construction projects at the foot of Stara Planina, or Balkan, mountains.
