Varna Municipality Will Tear Down Illegal Property

Illegal property on the south bank of the Varna Lake is to be dismantled in a massive campaign initiated by Varna municipality. The area designated for clearance stretches from Asparouhov Bridge as far as the village of Konstantievo, Stroitelstvo Gradut reports.Construction control has acted upon and released 202 protocols regarding illegitimate sites during an investigation of all fishing villages in the region. Most properties in question are parcels that claim to have received temporary right of usage under Paragraph Four of the document signed by the municipality's ruling council in 1956, and later, using false documentation "had obtained construction rights"."Massive land theft has occurred here, as well as attempts to legitimise them using falsified documentation. Among the perpetrators are the former head of branch public order maintenance, Svetomir Nikolov, who has been sacked," said a spokesman for the Varna administration, quoted by Stroitelstvo Gradut."This investigation is just starting. In some areas, large buildings have been erected, none of them legitimate. Agents from the national directive of construction control will also take part in the action," said Varna mayor, Kiril Yordanov.According to the municipality, the south bank of the Varna lake is "littered with stolen parcels of national land"."In Malka Chaika, for instance, there are two such cases. In the first, government land has been used to construct a heli-pad. The second - and the more sensible one - is the already operational water and waste treatment station, which was built there illegally," the administration says.
