- Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev would announce on April 30 the names of the deputy ministers to be dismissed, Dnevnik daily said. According to the agreement of Stanishev’s Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) with the other two partners in the ruling coalition, National Movement for Stability and Progress and Movement for Rights and Freedoms, 20 per cent of deputy ministers and 25 per cent of deputy regional governors would be dismissed.

Society

- Old vehicles, neglected by their owners, accounted for the numerous road accidents in Bulgaria, Traffic Police experts told Monitor daily. Experts also said that Bulgarians simply lacked sufficient funds to maintain their vehicles properly or buy new ones.

- For the first time the International Intellectual Property Alliance did not include Bulgaria in its list of countries to be monitored because of a high level of intellectual products’ piracy, Dnevnik said. Bulgaria was moved to the category of countries with special remarks, together with Germany, Japan, Switzerland, Singapore, Jordan and New Zealand.

- Two thousand Russian experts would work on the construction and equipment of Bulgaria’s Belene nuclear power plant, according to Dnevnik. The total number of people now involved in the project is now estimated to reach 6000.
