Ebrd Ready To Invest In The Bulgarian Energy Sector

Direct investment by the European bank for reconstruction and development (EBRD) amounts to more than 1.7 billion levs, while the attracted investment - about 6 billion Euro.This was the generalization made by the Minister of Economy Petar Dimitrov during a meeting with the bank's president Thomas Mirow.Thus, EBRD turns out to be one of the most serious investors in the country, Dimitrov pointed out, as he praised highly the bank's work in conditions of crisis.EBRD president Thomas Mirow pointed that Bulgaria is a key country for the bank and gave an example of the good practice with the International fund. According to him, EBRD is ready to invest in the energy sector in Bulgaria.Minister Dimitrov was emphatic that this is especially important to us, because the gas crisis from the beginning of the year proved the sharp necessity of projects, guaranteeing the energy security of the country.He declared his full support for the participation of EBRD in the projects for construction of intersystem gas links between Bulgaria, Romania, Turkey and Greece, as well as the enlargement of the capacity of the Chiren storage and transformation of the gas field Galata into a gas storage.Petar Dimitrov and Thomas Mirow achieved an understanding that work groups from the bank and the Bulgarian energy holding will start work on the particularization of the specific problems, whose realization is of mutual interest.Later today a Memorandum for understanding between EBRD and the government of Republic of Bulgaria for activities in the sphere of stable power engineering will be signed.
