Britons Warned About Property Investment In Bulgarias Resorts 12/03/2008
Britons were warned to be careful when buying property in Bulgaria, because it could turn out that they are buying in resorts established illegally. Low prices and nice climate made Bulgaria one of the most popular destinations for British property investors, but the homes bought in the coastal resort of Golden Pearl may end up demolished, Daily Mail said. The resort was built in Strandzha preserve, which provoked the discontent of environmentalists. The World Wide Fund (WWF) asked officials to revoke planning permission because such violated European Union environmental rules. WWF had informed the European Commission on the case, Daily Mail said. New tendencies in the vacation property market in Bulgaria were to be expected, agents said during the Southeast European economic forum that began on October 31. Vacation property demand in the central parts of the country was going to increase, mediapool.bg reported. The demand would be highest in villages known for spa treatment opportunities. Hisarya, Velingrad and Sandanski could soon become new vacation property hotspots, mediapool.bg reported. The State Agency for Tourism (SAT) was going to aid developments increasing the popularity of Bulgaria's alternative tourism. Bulgaria's real estate industry is acting to establish confidence in its practices by stamping out dodgy dealing. The National Real Property Association, a non-governmental trade organisation for those working in Bulgaria's property sector, is to set up a special regulatory committee. The announcement was made by NRPA head Lachezar Iskrov to Bulgarian news agency Novinite. According to Overseas Property Professional magazine, the new body will focus on ensuring that all property transactions are properly declared, in order to squeeze property fraudsters out of the country's market. Just last week, the Association of International Property Professionals (AIPP) declared its support for a campaign led by Quest Bulgaria magazine to clean up the Balkan country's property... more

LONDON (Thomson Financial) - Madara Bulgarian Property Fund said it plans to raise up to 2.5 million euros via the issue of up to 3,676,471 new ordinary shares in the company, representing approximately 9.8 percent of the issued ordinary shares in the company, at 0.68 euros per ordinary share.In a statement issued alongside an interim report showing a bigger first-half operating loss, the company said work on its projects progressed slower than expected and that it needs more funds to continue its operations until a deal on its Black Sea Gardens project is reached. Madara will issue 3.67 million shares at 0.68 euros apiece.For the six months to June 30, the company's loss from operations rose to 862,022 euros from 778,914 euros last year. more

Bulgaria moves three places ahead - from 79th to 76th position in the classification for global competitiveness for 2008-2009 at the World economic forum.This was announced by the Center for economic development (CED) - official partner of the Forum, cited by Bulgarian Telegraph Agency.The report for global competitiveness is a study of the state of economies in over 130 countries in the world. CED points out that Bulgaria has the worst position in comparison to all the rest European Union countries. more
