Alfa Developments Acquires Landmark?s Portfolio 21/03/2008
Alfa Developments, fully-owned by Bulgarian industrial group Alfa Finance Holding, has formally notified the Commission for the Protection of Competition (CPC)  of its intention to acquire 75 per cent in property developer Landmark, Alfa Finance said in a statement on March 17. The proposed deal needs CPC approval to go through. The seller is Bridgecorp, owned by Landmark managers Richard McDonald and Tanya Kosseva-Boshova, who acquired the company last year for 210 million euro in the biggest re-sale transaction on the Bulgarian real estate market. Bridgecorp's shareholders will continue to hold a 25 per cent stake. Bulgaria Opens Summer Tourist Season On May 9 15/04/2008
The summer tourist season would be officially opened on May 9, State Agency for Tourism head Anelia Kroushkova said on April 14. "An increasing number of hotel owners are looking to open for business as early as possible to take advantage of the warm weather," Kroushkova told Focus news agency. With May 1 and May 9 being official holidays in Russia, Bulgarian hotels are targeting Russian tourists at the start of the season. "We should make sure that we attract Russian [tourist] as early as May, because they have the money and also several days off in a row," Kroushkova said. British holidaymakers have been advised to consider travelling to Bulgaria by a national newspaper. According to the Times, the eastern European country offers a number of attractions which would appeal to the whole family. In addition, Bulgaria was said to be much more affordable than places such as Italy, Portugal, France and Spain. This is because the pound has slumped to a record low against the single European currency - falling by nearly a fifth in the last year.
