Bulgarias Capital Will Grow To The North

After the over-development in Sofia’s northern areas in the past years, the municipality is expected to fund construction projects at the foot of Stara Planina, or Balkan, mountains.

Investors in industrial property and warehouses increasingly focus their interest in the north, Capital weekly reported.

Although the region has been traditionally thought of as unattractive for residents, architects have been considering construction projects even earlier than expected.

Sofia municipalities will examine a proposal for changes in Sofia’s general zoning-plan in the autumn of 2007.

The projects envision the construction of residential complexes, sports centres and tourist attractions.

Sofia’s demographic development exceeded the expectations of the zoning-plan upon which it was based, Zhorzheta Rafailova of municipal company Sofproekt said.

The new development project envisions the construction of sports centres next to Sofia while residential complexes will be concentrated mainly near Stara Planina.

The Sofia municipality will develop public beaches near the mineral springs of Chepintsi and Gnilyane.  The municipality is currently negotiating with potential investors on the purification system in Kubratovo, which will be turned into an eco park.
