The town of Gorna Oryahovitsa is located in north-central Bulgaria, Veliko Turnovo District. It is situated at the northern foothill of the Tarnovo Elevations, some 7 km northeast of Veliko Tarnovo, 3 km northwest of Liaskovets and 247 km northeast of Sofia. The town is the biggest railway center of Northern Bulgaria. The two main railroad lines Sofia - Gorna Oriahovitsa - Varna and Rousse - Gorna Oriahovitsa - Stara Zagora - Podkova cross through there.
