The town of Plachkovtsi lies 28 km east of Gabrovo, 8 km south of Tryavna, 50 km south-west of Veliko Tarnovo and about 250 km west of Sofia. It is at about 700 m altitude.

The area is very picturesque. There are not one, but three rivers that go through the town - the rivers Stoevski, Radevski and Neikovska.
