Authorities In Bulgaria Check For Construction In Strandzha Park And Stop Illegal Developments In Bansko

Regular weekly checks on construction in Strandzha natural preserve are to start, Deputy Prosecutor-General Mitio Markov said.

Information that construction is to begin at the Golden Pearl development, which is meant to be suspended, was the reason for the check-ups, Focus news agency reported.

Building of the development is frozen, but the construction site was provided with electricity and water and preparations for construction had begun, Markov said.

“No construction in the park will be allowed,” he said. At the beginning of October 2007, the SAC will discuss the status of Strandzha. On June 29, the SAC revoked the natural reserve status of the park and a wave of protest erupted.

Illegal construction is also going on in the resort town of Bansko. Construction of 10 developments had been terminated, Markov said.

Examination of the developments in Bansko will end by November 2007. It would take this long because of the large number of projects to be inspected.
