Bulgaria could earn round 100 million USD yearly from congress tourism, the Bulgarian MEP Biliana Raeva considers. According to Raeva words the congress tourism is one of the most successful tourist branches and our country should stake more on this sphere. A business tourist leaves few times more money than the ordinary one by his visit to a concrete country. Round 400, 000 people have visited Bulgaria for business in 2006. Minimal drop in the amount of this kind of tourists is marked in 2007, but for the first 5 months of the present year, the branch marks raise of 16,6%. Bulgarian Army Signs Suspicious Property Deals 12/03/2008
Bulgarian army made a ‘disturbing’ property deal, swapping 4475 sq m in Sofia’s Yuzjen Park (South Park) residential district for eight apartments with a total area of 710 sq m. The plot was close to the US embassy and had been used as military barracks, Sega daily reported. The deal involves the Defence Ministry and “the quite famous company Nikmi, which was involved in a series of scandalous exchanges of municipal properties” in Sofia, the newspaper said. Under the deal the army plot was estimated at 227 leva per sq m, while the apartments was 1436 leva per sq m. Comparable terrain in Sofia was usually offered at 1000 to 1200 euro per sq m, Sega said. Property buyers from the UK now own homes in dozens of different countries, according to an industry expert. Broadcaster Amanda Lamb, who hosts Channel 4's A Place in the Sun, said there are now a significant number of British-owned houses in more than 50 nations. Investment property in Spain was flagged up as a particularly popular, along with Bulgaria, Cape Verde, Morocco and Egypt. However, she urged investors to remember that not all countries will offer the living standards they expect, as they are at various stages of development. Therefore, Ms Lamb has recommended that people look beyond cheap houses and find out what a country has to offer before committing to a purchase.
